A foreign national usually needs a work permit to work in Canada. In some case, one can work without work permit. There are basically two types of work permits:
Employer specific work permits
Open Work Permits
Employer specific worker permit allows you to work as per conditions mentioned on the work permit, like:
> Name of the employer to work for
> Duration of the work permit
> Location of the employment
Open work permit allows you to work for any employer in Canada barring few exceptions. Spouse of international student or employer specific work permit holder could apply for an open work permit. After completing studies as an International student in Canada, one could apply for Post Graduate Work Permit. This PGWP is an open work permit and valid for a maximum duration of 3 years. The duration of the PG work permit is based on duration of diploma/degree completed from Designated Learning Institute (DLI).
A Canadian employer might need a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) before hiring a temporary foreign worker. A positive LMIA shows that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill a particular position. A positive LMIA is sometimes called a confirmation letter. The employer needs to apply for an LMIA, if they need one. Once an employer gets the LMIA, the worker can apply for a work permit.
Our team can help the employers in recruiting temporary foreign workers and guide the way into intricate LMIA process. We can also help the foreign workers in applying or renewing their work permits.
